Account deletion

Deleting your Stack account.

You can delete your Stack account yourself, at any time, from inside the app. You do not need to email anyone and you do not need to ask permission.

Settings → Security and 2FA → Delete account.

Deletion is immediate and it cannot be undone.

What happens when you delete

Your bank connections end first. Before anything is removed, Stack instructs Plaid to disconnect every bank you linked. Almost always that succeeds straight away. If Plaid cannot be reached at that moment, Stack keeps the one credential needed to issue that instruction, for one purpose only, and retries daily for up to seven days. It is destroyed at the end of that window whether or not the instruction has gone through, and it is never used for anything else.

Then everything of yours is deleted. Your profile, the cards you added, your linked accounts and their balances, your transaction history, your budgets, your savings goals, and your Max conversations are all removed. This is not a flag marking the account closed. The rows are gone.

Your bank login details are not ours to delete, because we never had them. You entered them inside Plaid, not inside Stack, and they have never been on Stack's servers. To remove what Plaid holds, use Plaid's own portal at my.plaid.com.

What we keep, and why

A security log, with you removed from it. Stack keeps a record that certain security events happened, such as a sign-in or a consent being accepted. When you delete your account, your identifier is stripped from every one of those entries, so what remains records that an event occurred and not who it belonged to. These entries are deleted after 12 months.

Nothing else about you is retained.

How long it takes

Deleting your account takes a few seconds. Your data is removed as part of that same action rather than being queued for later.

Copies of the database held in our provider's routine backups are overwritten on their own schedule, and your data disappears from those as they roll over. It is not accessible through Stack at any point after you delete.

If you cannot sign in

If you have lost access to your email and cannot get into the app, write to privacy@usestack.app from any address and tell us the email address on the account. We will verify it belongs to you before deleting anything, and we respond within 30 days and usually far sooner.
